Engr. Uchenna Okogbuo, the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for South, has declared that the party will take over the governance of Abia State in 2023.
Addressing leaders and Stakeholders of APGA, after the party’s Congress, in Umuahia, on Thursday, Okogbuo, said that the party was repositioning itself for 2023 election, adding that it’s leadership was committed to ensure it take over Abia and four other South eastern states.
According to Okogbuo, “In 2023, we are not going to give excuses again. I’m very hopeful, we are going to take over this state, whether they want it or not. And taking over the state (Abia) starts with you today. If we fail to get strong people, committed people, APGA rooted people, into the ward, into the local government areas and into state, we will be wasting our time.
“We are aware that we may have had some mistakes in the past when we were electing our officers. But, the APGA of today, led by Ozonkpu Victor Oye is totally committed to take this party to the highest level. It is also on record that within the four years he piloted the affairs of APGA, we made tremendous progress. Today, the party can boast of twelve House of Representatives members.
“I want to let you know that APGA is fully involved in the politicking to elect new principal officers of the ninth National Assembly. They are approaching APGA. They are having meetings with us. They know that we are stakeholders in that regard. Before this time, we were never consulted. In Anambra state, in spite of the presence of former Governor Peter Obi, we were still able to win twenty-four out of twenty-nine Anambra House of Assembly seats.
“In Imo state, we had some mistakes here and there. We did not make a good outing. But, I assure you that in 2023, we are going to get nothing less than twenty House of Assembly members in this state. The leader of our party, His Excellency,Governor Willie Obiano, is committed to this party. If the people we so-called party stakeholders are committed like, APGA would have gone beyond where we are today.”
Meanwhile, Okogbuo, who is also the Returning Officer of the Abia APGA state congress, while reading out the harmonized list of the 23 names of Abia officers of the party, returned Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, as State chairman and Elder Sunday Onukwubiri, as secretary.
He urged the APGA officers in the state to ensure it work hard for the successes of the party in future election.
DAILY POST reports that Dr. Alex Otti, the 2019 election gubernatorial candidate of APGA, The three Senatorial candidates of the party, Chief David Ogba Onuoha(Abia North), Chief Chris Nkwota(Abia South) and Dr. Chidi Ajaegbu (Abia central) boycotted the State congress.
Others who boycotted the congress included, Hon. Chijioke Nwachukwu, current member representing Umuahia South constituency and Hon. Luke Ukara, member representing Arochukwu State constituency, both who are chieftains of APGA in Abia State.
