Actor Liam Neeson’s son Michael is taking his late mother Natasha Richardson’s last name.
Her mother, actress Vanessa Redgrave, revealed: “He’s taken, officially, the name of his mother. He’s Micheal Richardson, not Micheal Neeson.
“That wasn’t because he wanted to avoid his father’s fame, which is enormous. He wanted to hold his mother close to him — because she was a remarkable actress. Absolutely remarkable.”
It is understood that his famous father is totally at ease with his 23-year-old son’s decision.
Tragically, Natasha Richardson died in 2009, aged 45, following a skiing accident where she suffered head injuries.
Micheal was just 13 years old when his mother died on a family holiday in Canada with her husband and two sons.
His brother Daniel, 22, will retain his famous father’s last name who has starred in films like ‘Taken.’
Grandmother Redgrave says she approves of Micheal’s decision.
She added: “Our quaint customs dictate we have to have a male name. I don’t object. Why not? It’s as good as any.”
